MG Motor aims for 5-star crash test results in Indian market

#dailynews60 MG Motor India is aiming to achieve a 5-star crash test rating under the BNCAP safety guidelines. This is part of the brand’s emphasis on safety above all else.

MG Motor will aim to achieve a 5-star crash test rating under the BNCAP (Bharat New Cars Assessment Programme) regulations which will come into effect next year. BNCAP will have vehicles tested under several categories including side-impact tests, frontal-offset crash tests, rear impact and pedestrian protection. The President & Managing Director at MG Motor India, Rajeev Chaba, stated that the upcoming B-segment SUV will get two BS-VI engines. He added that most cars from the brand already have a 5-star crash rating in China which is based on Chinese NCAP guidelines.

Chaba also talked of how there are issues revolving on guidelines for the proposed Bharat NCAP. The final vehicle speed at which the cars will undergo tests has not been clearly specified as of yet according to him. MG will however be working on getting 5-star ratings for its cars as per Chaba.

The new SUV will compete with the Hyundai Tucson and Jeep Compass and will come with a turbo-diesel 2.0 litre engine and a turbo-petrol 1.5 litre engine. There will be several premium features for the SUV including a sunroof, powered seats, leather upholstery, free-standing infotainment unit, electronic parking brake and cruise control among others.
